Jeollabuk-do Future Planning Unit Brainstorms International School Establishment Plans Seok In-young, Advisor at BIEK Korea, "International schools are a global trend"
Since its launch in January, the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Advisory Panel's 'Future Planning Unit' has been actively brainstorming future policy ideas.
On March 15, the 'Jeollabuk-do Future Planning Unit 2nd Meeting' was held in the provincial office's situation room. The meeting, attended by around 30 individuals including Hong Gyeong-jun, the head of the Future Planning Unit, committee members, the Policy Planning Director, and the Director of Education Communication Cooperation, focused on presenting and discussing plans for establishing international schools.
The establishment of international schools is one of the key pledges of Governor Kim Gwan-young, aimed at increasing population inflow and revitalizing the local economy, especially in the Saemangeum area, which is a pressing issue for the province.
The presentation was given by Seok In-young, an advisor for BIEK Korea (International School Establishment Task Force) who has served as the Project Management Director at the Jeju International Free City Development Center and CEO of the international school operating corporation, JEINS.
In his presentation, Seok In-young stated, "The international school market is a global trend, with countries opening up their education markets through policies to enhance national competitiveness by fostering global talents. As of the end of last year, 23 schools are being planned or pursued in 12 regions domestically." He emphasized that "the establishment of international schools in a region can lead to an influx of high-income families from both domestic and international backgrounds, increasing consumption and housing demand, and expecting to revitalize commercial areas and land."
The meeting also discussed efficient operational strategies for the Future Planning Unit. Hong Gyeong-jun, the head of the Future Planning Unit, stated, "Starting with today's topic, 'International Schools,' the Future Planning Unit will proactively present analyses and diverse alternatives on major social issues to be reflected in provincial policies."
Min Seon-sik, the Policy Planning Director of Jeollabuk-do, mentioned, "The valuable opinions provided by the members of the Future Planning Unit will serve as a driving force for our province to step forward into a better future. We will actively support the Future Planning Unit to function as a provincial advisory body and to operate proactively."
