Shinhan University (President Kang Sung-jong) held a welcome ceremony on Friday, February 21, for representatives of Haileybury, a prestigious British school. The visiting delegation included Chairman Martin Rayfield, Principal Eugene du Toit, and Director Mark Smith from Haileybury, as well as Directors Ian Hunt, Henry Aronsson, Sebastian Pozzo, Korea Representative Byeongdo Choi, and Benjamin Lee from BIEK—a total of 12 attendees.
During the event, President Kang delivered a welcoming address expressing the university’s strong commitment to establishing an international school and building a global education network. He stated,
“Shinhan University is expanding international education and exchange in line with the era of globalisation. In particular, we are actively promoting the establishment of international schools to help northern Gyeonggi Province grow into an innovative hub where global education and future industries converge, rather than being seen as merely the outskirts of the metropolitan area.”
President Kang continued,
“The Namyangju and Paju sites owned by our university are ideally suited for international school development. Paju, while close to the Seoul metropolitan area, provides a nature-friendly educational environment. We aim to build a leading global education hub representing Korea and to continue meaningful cooperation for the cultivation of global talent.”

He also highlighted the development potential of northern Gyeonggi Province, saying,
“Northern Gyeonggi is undergoing rapid change and development. In particular, Paju has great potential to become a central point for inter-Korean exchange, international education, advanced industries, and cultural collaboration.”
He added,
“Shinhan University will not only establish international schools but will also grow together with the northern Gyeonggi region to become a university that leads global education and regional development.”

A Taekwondo Department demonstration was also held during the event. The powerful and disciplined performance left a strong impression on attendees. Haileybury Chairman Martin Rayfield remarked,
“Taekwondo is a wonderful cultural heritage that embodies the traditions and spirit of Korea,” expressing how deeply moved he was by the performance.
This visit is expected to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Shinhan University and Haileybury, with continued practical discussions anticipated for the establishment of an international school and the expansion of a global education network.
